Thieves uproot ATM machines, steal money

Four persons uprooted two automated teller machines (ATMs) of HDFC and Canara banks from Usgao-Tisk area in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Police said the amount stolen from the machines is yet to be ascertained.

They said the machines were physically uprooted from the ATM room and were opened outside.

They are trying to identify the four involved in this burglary with the help of CCTV footage.

Police sub-inspector Aditya Velip attached to the Ponda police station said the burglary took place between 2.34 am and 2.50 am.

The CCTV footage showed four individuals with her faces covered entering the ATM room.

Police said they found the machines 5 meters away from the ATM room.

Cuncolim, Mardol shopkeeper attacked

In a shocking incident, two thieves attacked a shopkeeper at Cuncoliem, Mardol, in the wee hours of Wednesday in a failed robbery attempt.

The grocery shop owner, identified as Gurunath Sadashiv Kurtikar, aged 52, was injured in this attack and is admitted to a hospital. The two unknown miscreants dumped the bikes used by them at the attack site and fled from the scene.

Ponda police have seized the bikes.

Gold and valuables stolen from temple at Khandola, Marcel

Robbers decamped with gold, silver and valuables worth around Rs 6 to 10 lakh from Mahaganapati temple at Khandola, Marcel. Thieves snapped the power cables of CCTV cameras to ensure they were not captured in the footage.

One-sided love lands man behind bars

One-sided love could land you in jail, yes you heard it right. In one such incident which took place at Zuarinagar, Sancoale, a 53-year-old man, who confessed his love multiple times to a woman, found himself behind bars.

Police said the man, Manoj Naik, a resident of Zuarinagar, Sancoale, used to send WhatsApp messages to the lady showing his affection despite the latter showing no interest.

Frustrated by no response from the woman, the man reportedly criminally trespassed into the flat of the complainant armed with an iron rod to cause harm.

He caught hold of the woman's hand and pulled her towards him. A relative who objected to the man's bahaviour was threatened with dire consequences.

Man held for assaulting youth

Verna police arrested a resident of Zuarinagar, Sancoale, for abusing and assaulting a youth from the same area.

Verna police named Kariya Yadav (42) a resident of Zorint, Zuarinagar, Sancoale, as the man involved in the crime.

PI Diego Gracias said what triggered the fight was a verbal altercation between the two over some personal issues.

The accused threatened the complainant with dire consequences. Verna police have registered an offence under section 323, 504, 506(ii) IPC.
