Goa Rains: IMD issues yellow alert; heavy rainfall predicted for next few days

Rains have intensified everywhere again due to the formation of a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal. The meteorological observatory has forecasted torrential rains in  Goa from Sunday. Therefore, a yellow alert has been issued.

It will also rain heavily for the next few days. However, the observatory has not yet made any predictions regarding its recede. Heavy rains are also expected during Ganesh Chaturthi. This is likely to dampen the enthusiasm of the devotees.

Heavy rains have also hit several places in the state on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, the Panaji city area was hit by heavy rains in Pedne to Kankon and Valpoi. Panaji experienced 1.6 inches (41 mm) of rain in two hours, according to the meteorological observatory.

The Director in charge of the Meteorological Department, M. Rahul while addressing the situation said, "In Goa, the rainfall has increased to 21.5 mm on Monday as compared to last fortnight. The meteorological department has forecast rains in Konkan, Marathwada, Vidarbha and many parts of Central Maharashtra. Rain is also expected in Konkan and Raigad areas."
