Goa reported 583 fresh Covid-19 cases and two more deaths on Tuesday.

Goa active cases rose to 2763 and cases positive rate have come down to 13.89 per cent. Goa tested 4261 samples in the last 24 hours.

In North Goa, the active caseload in Panaji has shot up to 346 while Porvorim gas second highest caseload 182. The health centre in Mapusa has reported 162 active cases while Chimbel and Siolim have 116 active cases each.

In South Goa, Margao has the highest number of active cases 348 and Cansaulim have 223 active cases. the health centre in Cortalim has reported 139 active cases while Ponda has 109 active cases.

Goa see massive spike in Covid cases, four omicron cases detected

Despite the huge spike in infections, hospitalisations haven't begun to rise. There are 9 people who were hospitalised while 67 people have recovered in the last 24 hours.

Director of Health services Dr Ira Almeida said that the third wave of the pandemic has begun in Goa on December 28.

On Monday, State epidemiologist Dr Utkarsh Betodkar said that by mid-January Goa could have between 5000 to 10,000 active cases.

Meanwhile, 15,000 children in the age group of 15-18 gave been administered the first dose of vaccine in Goa.
