Goa sees an acceleration in the spread of Covid-19 cases as 1002 fresh cases were reported on Wednesday, January 5, its highest single-day rise after seven months.
The number of active Covid cases have jumped to 3718, the highest since June 16. out of which 13 are hospitalisations and 989 home isolations.
One death was also reported in the last 24 hours, taking the fatality toll to 3526.
With 5653 tests done in the last 24 hours, the case positivity is 17.72 per cent.
In North Goa, the active caseload in Panaji has shot up to 465 while Porvorim has the second-highest caseload 257. The health centre in Mapusa has reported 219 active cases while Chimbel and Siolim have 164 and 162 active cases each.
In South Goa, Margao has the highest number of active cases 481 and Cansaulim have 286 active cases. the health centre in Cortalim has reported 190 active cases while Ponda has 147 active cases.
With 46 patients recovering in the last 24 hours, the total number of recoveries has gone up to 176551.
The new cases have pushed the total number of covid cases in Goa to 183795. Goa, so far, detected 11 cases of Covid variant Omicron.
