Goa BJP Spokesperson, Savio Rodrigues, has condemned the IFFI jury head for terming The Kashmir Files as inappropriate and a “propaganda movie” for including it in the just-concluded 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI), held in Goa.

The Goa BJP Spokesperson expressed his dismay with the statement of the jury head of IFFI, Nadav Lapid, for describing The Kashmir Files as a “propaganda, vulgar and inappropriate movie” for being included in IFFI.

During the closing ceremony of IFFI on Monday, Lapid appreciated 14 movies which were part of the film festival. However, he criticised the inclusion of The Kashmir Files, which he felt was inappropriate for making it to the IFFI Panorama section, which is meant for artistic and creative films.

After listening to the comments of the jury head of IFFI, Rodrigues posted a video on social media condemning the views and statements made by the jury head against The Kashmir Files, stating that such statements made against this movie were an insult to the Kashmiri Hindus and pandits, who have witnessed the horrors and were forced to leave Kashmir during the genocide.

Rodrigues further said that this fact about the Kashmiri pandits needed to be told and this has been done through this movie. “It is important that filmmakers do not shy away from showcasing the brutality, cruelty and inhumanity that has happened in society. And, that is exactly what the filmmaker has done to the holocaust, which happened with the Jews,” said Rodrigues.

The BJP spokesperson also invited jury head, Lapid, to visit Kashmir and meet a few Kashmiri pandits so as to understand the brutality which they experienced. “Maybe he could make a movie with a cinematic point of view. But, the truth is for all to see as far as the atrocities on our people in Kashmir are concerned,” Rodrigues added.
