PANAJI: Renowned industrialist Nitin Maganlal was unanimously elected president of Asha Mahal, a voluntary organisation from Taleigao. Businessman Gangaram Morakjar was elected vice president.
The other office-bearers elected for three-year term are as follows: Vice president(North Goa)Manisha Naik, vice president (South Goa) Sandhya Srivastava, honorary secretary Adv Harsha Naik, joint secretary Nila Navelkar, treasurer Seema Pednekar and joint treasurer Lata Parekh.
The executive members are Jayant Naik, Bharati Prabhudesai, Rosevita, Rachana Joshi and Gokuldas Amonkar.
The newly elected president Nitin Maganlal said that he will try to expand the work of Asha Mahal, which has been working for the destitute,women and children and those who were lonely and had nobody to look after and feed them. He said that the social welfare department, Government of Goa was financially supporting it. The organisation also receives support from the Swadhar Greh, a scheme for women in difficult circumstances launched by the department of women and child development, Government of Goa.
He said that the Asha Mahal look after the welfare of the destitute, women and children who were lonely and had nobody to look after and feed them. They also undergo regular medical check-up by doctors from the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim. Currently Asha Mahal houses 30 women.
