PANAJI: State Health Secretary Nila Mohanan informed that the State government has received a proposal for getting an e-fabricated structure for throat swab collection under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This facility provides requisite safety to the health worker while taking throat swab samples. According to Mohanan, one such structure has been installed at Hospicio Hospital, Margao and it is planned to place similar structures at other government hospitals of Goa. The State Executive Committee (SEC) decided that these structures should be placed even if there is a cost involved for its procurement. She was speaking at the meeting of State Executive Committee (SEC) held in the presence of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, Principal Secretary, Science and Technology Puneet Goel, Secretary Transport S K Bhandari and Secretary Revenue Sanjay Kumar. Secretary Finance Daulat A Hawaldar, DIG Rajesh Kumar, PCCF Subhash Chandra, Commissioner Excise Amit Satija, Secretary Fisheries P S Reddy, Secretary Tourism J Ashok Kumar, Secretary Panchayat Sanjay Grihar, Secretary of Law C R Garg, Secretary Civil Supply Isha Khosla, Director of Municipal Administration Tariq Thomas, Principal Chief Engineer (PWD) U P Parsekar and R G Keni, Chief Engineer (Electricity) were also present on the occasion. Mohanan also informed that National Institute of Virology (NIV) has recently supplied 2,000 regents’ kits and 200 RNA extraction kits instead of 2,000 RNA extraction kits as requested for Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) who has promised to provide the additional requirement as soon as possible. The SEC reviewed the progress on the manufacturing of masks. Secretary WCD informed that he has assessed the capacity of the six agencies (handicrafts and other SHGs) currently undertaking the production of masks. Their current capacity is about 20,000 per day with a cost of about Rs 25 per mask for reusable (washable) masks. Clothes and threads are to be provided to them. Police authorities informed that they have issued necessary directions for checking the goods train for the possibility of people using the same for movement in/out of Goa.
