PANAJI: Revolutionary Goans condemned the arrogant act of Vijai insulting press and appealed to all Goans to show these so called leaders their place. People all over Goa are demanding for the POGO bill to be introduced in the state, on the other hand Goa Forward Party's chief Vijai Sardesai asked a reporter to leave a press briefing when he questioned about the POGO bill. The regional party, GFP came into existence with the slogan, "Goen, Goenkar, Goenkarpon!" and always claims to be fighting for rights and betterment of Goans. However this is not the first time this person is showing his arrogance openly towards people of Goa. Harish Volvoikar, a journalist representing Goajunction and India Today, asked the Goa Forward party president Vijai Sardesai his views on ‘Person of Goa Origin’ (POGO) Bill to which he got an arrogant and insulting reply. "I’ve not come here to be cross examined like I am in the court. If you want to take down what I am saying, you take it down, otherwise you can go. I am not coming here to be cross examined,” said Vijai during a press briefing recently. Totally disappointed by this disrespectful treatment by an elected representative, reporter Volvoikar complained to Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ). His complaint pointed out “the statement made by the elected representative was unwarranted and unethical, while discharging my duties”. The monsoon sessions have already passed after the Revolutionary Goans have drafted a POGO bill and submitted the same to all the elected representatives requesting them to take it up for discussion during the monsoon assembly session. Not a single elected representative has bothered to take it up for discussion in the session. People of Goa are much supportive towards the POGO bill but the elected representatives are least bothered. The only reason behind this negligence being the vote bank which is going to get affected if the POGO bill is passed. Media is the fourth pillar of Democracy which has all the right to question the elected representative regarding anything concerning the state or country. This kind of insulting treatment towards the Press is highly shameful. Revolutionary Goans strongly condemn this act by Vijay Sardesai. We demand not only apology from the elected representative but expect the press to completely boycott all the news coverage for Goa Forward Party and their leaders. GFP and it's leaders always blabbered about fighting for Goans and preserving their rights. Their love for Goa only lasted till they got elected. They used the emotions of Goan people and now like all other elected representatives, they are behind preserving their vote banks. The problem of migrants illegally settling in Goa is rising and these MLAs are using these people for their vote bank politics. The people claiming to fight for Goa's identity, shall sit at home if they can't keep their words.
