Goa's cocktail story which so far has been shaped by self-taught bartenders at beach shacks and YouTube tutorials, is entering a new era.

With the launch of Bartending Academy Goa at the Guardian Angel Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (GAIHMCT), the State now has a professional training platform for aspiring mixologists.

GAIHMCT is a trusted name in hospitality education and this academy started by it is set to redefine beverage education in the State, offering students a unique platform to master the craft of bartending.

Principal Raynold Dsouza and academy head Nikky Fernandes said that the bartending training promises to be a game-changer for students.

"The state-of-the-art training comes with bar management and customer service. The course will also prepare the students for thriving careers in various dynamics of bars and resorts," Nikky informed.

LEARN HANDS-ON
“The short-term bartending course at Bartending Academy Goa will cover essential modules such as bar setup and operations, cocktail-making, beverage knowledge, customer service skills, and responsible alcohol service. Students will gain hands-on training in classic and modern mixology, use of professional bar tools, and preparation of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages,” Raynold said.

The course also includes sessions on bar hygiene, bartending basics and job readiness to equip students for careers in the hospitality and beverage industry.

Students will be provided with bar kits and manuals to guide them through the learning process. Also, students will be taught how to handle live bar counters.

Talking about the criteria for joining the course, Nikky said, “The applicant needs to be 18 years old and must have a passion for bartending. There is a great demand for people with such skills in the F&B industry. Job opportunities in the field include mixologist, flair bartender, brand ambassador or even as freelance bartender.”

STAYING TRUE TO GOA’S ROOTS
As part of the field visit during the training perios, students will visit Adinco Distilleries where they will witness the local distillation process, informed Principal Raynold and added, “The trainees will get to taste 11 different traditional cashew feni flavours to understand flavour profiles and showcase creative ideas for promoting Goa's cherished beverage.”
