Teotanio Pereira, former St Andre MLA and one of the last surviving memebers of Goa's first legislative assembly, passed away on Wednesday. He was 89.

Pereira played an important role in the early years of freedom and was elected to first legislative assembly on the United Goans Party (UGP) after defeating Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party's chief minister candidate Vishwanath Lawande in 1963.
