A delegation of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders including Advocate Seoula Vas, Kavita Kandoolkar and Priya Rathod on Wednesday, January 5, met the police inspector of Calangute, Laxi Amonkar, seeking justice for Siddhi Naik, whose body was found at Calangute beach, and demanded a thorough and rapid investigation into the case.
Speaking to the reporters outside the police state, Vas said: "We have demanded with the new PI that this investigation has to be done seriously and rapidly because now there is 302 section against unknown persons. So these unknown persons have been to be identified within 24 hours. We cannot wait any longer. Five months are already over."
She further stated that Goa has become a rape capital and cases are not reaching convictions. "There have been 70 rapes in 20 years but no convictions. We are not going to leave it at that, we want termination of former PI Nolasco Raposo," she said.
Priya Rathod demanded a fair and thorough inquiry into the murder. "There should be no further political pressure in the investigation," she said.
Earlier, nearly five months after the baffling death of the 19-year-old Siddhi Naik, the Calangute police had registered the case as murder after an inquiry was conducted last week.
In September, Siddhi Naik's father, Sandeep Naik, lodged a complaint against unknown accused, claiming that she was murdered by forcibly drowning her in the seawater at the Calangute beach.
