In spite of several rules and laws against child labour in the country, the practice is still widely prevalent in various parts of the country. While some of these incidents are brought to light, there are too many which go unnoticed. These incidents throw light on some of the harsh realities of life.
Therefore, the students of the Taleem Group of School recently took to the streets and enacted street plays at the Tisk-Usgao junction, Dharbandora, in order to showcase the 'Evils of Child Labour'.
The headmistress of the Taleem Group of School spoke about the theme and the reason behind the street play. She said, "The main objective of this play is to create awareness among the people about the evils of child labour. It is unlawful to make children work at this age, at an age where they need to go school."
The president of the Hussenen Education and Fellowship Society, Dr Afreen Shaikh, said that making children work was a heinous crime. "We want people to know that it is a very serious crime to make underage children work. They belong in the school. It is a crime to snatch this childhood away from them," she said.
Appreciating the efforts of the students, a resident said that it was good to see that the students were performing such activities. "I appreciate the teachers who have prepared the students. The students have done justice to such a sensitive topic."
