Goa First, an NGO, filed a complaint to South Goa Collector, Fisheries Department, Goa Costal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) and Mormugao Municipality against Drishti Marine, alleging illegal construction of a marine jetty at Baina beach.

Parshuram Sonurlekar, president of Goa First, said that a complaint was lodged against the concerned in January 2021 that was taken into account and an inquiry was conducted by District collector in this regard. Later, it was revealed that Drishti Marine had no legal permissions.

"Every year the jetty flows during the rainy season and all iron metal remains at the bottom of the sea. Most of the temporary structures constructed for commercial purposes have been demolished by the owners. But this structure is allowed to be removed without being destroyed. It is a routine practice that new structures are built without any permission," said Sonurlekar.

Sonurlekar noted that the project has committed illegal acts every time they built a new jetty without any legal process.

Goa First has demanded that the project proposers should make presentations to fishermen and local residents before constructing.
