Mormugao Municipal Corporation's renovation gets delayed

With only eight months left till the end of the tender period for the renovation of the Mormugao Municipal Corporation building, the renovation work is being carried at a snail's pace.

The contractor claims that the work is being delayed as the municipal offices have not been relocated yet.

Roofing of the building has been done on one side, cement plastering has been done on only inside. The painting work is yet to start.

Meanwhile, work on the other side of the building has been hampered due to non-relocation of the Chief Minister's Office, Mayor's Office and other offices.

The tender period for this work ends on September 18, 2022. The contractor said that the work could not begin until the municipal offices in the building are demolished.

Four months out of eight months are rainy and if the municipal office does not relocate, then there is no doubt that the renovation work of the municipal building will be further delayed due to intermittent rains.

Sources said that the power connection work was delayed due to lack of funds.

The municipal office will be shifted to the new market complex at Headland Sada.

Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) is undertaking the work of renovating the Portuguese era municipality building structure. The government had sanctioned 7 crores for the renovation work.
