Repair work on Portuguese era bridge at Margao-Karwar highway begins

The repair work on the Portuguese era bridge on Margao-Karwar highway began on Monday and is expected to continue for three months. Cargo vehicles using the taking this route will banned from Tuesday.

All the vehicles using this route will be channelised through other routes. Vehicles will be diverted from Poinguinim, Mashem and Manohar Parrikar bypass road, however, this will affect the drivers in Gaondongri and Cotigao.

The Portuguese era bridge was in dilapidated condition, stoking fears of risks to the commuters.

Work on the bridge is being carried out by the Trimurti Construction group and the repair work will cost Rs 1.5 crore.
