Two police constables from the Colva police station were killed when their vehicle collided with a four-wheeler at Seraulim last night while they were on 'nakabandi' (meaning blockade) duty.

The deceased have been identified as Shailesh Gavkar and Vishwas Deikar, resident of Balli and Ambaulim respectively. Gaonkar died on the spot when the four-wheeler hit him, while IRB constable Deykar died while being taken to the Goa Medical College, Bambolim. Colva police have arrested car driver Craig Rodriguez in connection with the case.

The accident took place near Dholayo garage at 12.10 pm last night when Rodriquez was speeding from Colvaa to Madgaon . At this time, four constables of Colva police station were on duty at the spot. Gavkar and Deikar got hit by the car while the other two constables escaped.

Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant offered his condolences to the family and kin of the deceased.

The driver has been charged with criminal mischief for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, according to Melson Kulaso, a police inspector at Colva Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
