Goan defender Jessel Carneiro will lead Kerala Blasters in the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL).
The club announced the captain's appointment through social media. Jessel will make his captaincy debut against ATK Mohan Bagan at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on November 19.
Left-back Jessel was the vice-captain of the Kerala Blasters in last season's ISL tournament. The 31-year-old defender will replace Zimbabwean defender Costa Nhamoinesu as the captain this season.
Last ISL season was a nightmare for the Kerala Blasters. The Tuskers scored only 17 points as they won just three matches and lost nine. The Kerala Blasters have failed to reach the playoffs in the last four seasons of the ISL. However, under new coach Ivan Vukomanovic, the Kerala Blasters hope to push for the playoffs.
Jessel made his ISL debut for the Kerala Blasters in the 2019 to 20 season. He has represented the Tuskers in 34 ISL matches. He also bagged five assists, which was the joint-most by a defender for the 2019-20 season.
