Goa's women's cricket team has reached the knockout stages of the Women’s Senior One Day Trophy after defeating Mizoram by eight wickets on Saturday.
The match was played at Visakhapatnam’s Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy Stadium on Saturday.
Mizoram won the toss and elected to bat first. But Mizoram's innings started awfully as they lost their first wicket in the second over. India fast bowler Shikha Pandey recorded her best performance of the season taking 4 wickets for 8 runs in 8 overs.
Apart from Pandey, experienced spinners Sunanda Yetrekar and Rupali Chavan took 2 wickets each. Soon the Mizoram innings folded for 58 runs.
In the second innings, Goa’s Purvaja Verlekar (25 not out), Shreya Parab (11) and Nikita Malik (17 not out) helped Goa to reach the total of 62 in 14.3 overs and ensure qualification for the knockout stage.
As the second-place team in Group D, Goa will now play in the pre-quarter-finals. Madhya Pradesh went straight to the quarter-finals as the group winners.
The knockout stage of the tournament will be played in Bangalore from November 13.
