Multiple chain snatching cases in city
Pune: Three women were targetted by bike-borne robbers who relieved them of their gold chains in the last three days including two on Makarsankranti festival on Saturday. While the city police is planning to increase safety measures for women there have been at least seven chain snatching cases reported this year. In a recent incident, a 53-year-old woman was robbed of her gold chain worth Rs 90,000 at Omkar Colony in Warje on Sunday afternoon a case of robbery is lodged at Warje police station. In another incident on Sunday evening, a 43-year-old woman was robbed of her gold chain worth Rs 70,000 near Golden Valley in Dhayri. Police sub-inspector Girish Sonawane who is investigating the case said that the woman was heading towards her home after celebrating Makarsankaranti festival when the robbers struck. "They were on a two-wheeler, pulsar, and the area was isolated and dark when the incident took place. Currently, the bike number cannot be seen but we are trying to look for CCTV footages in the crime area to get more leads" added Sonawane. In the third incident, on Saturday another 35-year-old woman was relieved of her gold chain worth Rs 3.4 lakh near Moshi Toll Plaza by two youths who had come on a two wheeler. A case of robbery is lodged at MIDC police station in this case. Police officials said that chain snatchers try to target elderly woman in most of the incidents.
