Why Goa was chosen as the permanent venue for IFFI
The 55th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is underway, marking another milestone in its rich history. Since 2004, Goa has been the permanent venue for this prestigious event.
The story behind how IFFI found its home in Goa is both fascinating and significant, and this video delves into that remarkable journey.
The video highlights the exceptional trajectory of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which began with its inaugural edition in 1952 in Mumbai. Over the years, the festival travelled to various cities, including Madras, Delhi, Calcutta and Trivandrum, before finally establishing its permanent home in Goa in 2004.
Goa’s capital city, Panjim, emerged as the ideal destination for IFFI, thanks to its distinctive charm, rich cultural heritage, picturesque landscapes and global appeal. This vibrant setting continues to attract filmmakers, industry professionals and film celebrities from around the world, solidifying Goa's status as a hub for cinematic celebration.
The festival is organised by the National Film Development Corporation of India (under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting), in collaboration with the Government of Goa.
Its primary goal is to foster cultural exchange, promote innovation and provide a platform for emerging filmmakers. The festival celebrates diverse storytelling, honouring the vision of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam", the idea that the world is one big family.
Since moving to Goa, IFFI has evolved into a globally competitive festival, featuring sections for film competition, networking events and educational workshops, thus offering budding filmmakers a vast variety of opportunities.
The festival also confers awards like the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award and the Indian Film Personality of the Year Award and several other awards for films and filmmakers.
