In Goa, there’s a common Konkani phrase, Aiz amger yo, meaning ‘drop by my place today’, that beautifully captures the State’s hospitable nature. And, it was this warm sense of home that inspired the restoration of a 135-year old Indo-Portuguese villa, named Amger, that today welcomes all into its interiors.
Located in the quaint village of Parra in North Goa, Amger is owned by brothers Arun and Alok Lalwani.
Although originally designed for private use by the family, as the villa neared completion, somehow it began to feel like a place that others could visit, where guests could unwind in comfort, just like that of a home.
ABOUT THE PROPERTY
Overlooking lush paddy fields, the property sits on half an acre of land, with the 5,550 sq ft villa nestled amidst greenery. The moment you walk into the property, the soothing sound of chirping birds, the plants and trees, simply cheer you up.
With its open veranda, wide balconies, arched doorways and windows, and high ceilings with Mangalorean tiled rooftop, the villa exudes a timeless Goan charm.
Aiming to preserve that, the design and restoration team, led by restoration expert Ketak Nachinolkar, architect Supriya Gandhi from The Workshop, and designers Arun Lalwani and Alok Lalwani, tried to create a space that aligns with modern living.
And so, it’s pretty easy to fall in love with the different corners at the villa that are all very inviting.
Guests have been found to be particularly fond of the gazebo area near the pool, and families who’ve visited Amger, especially those with elderly parents or relatives, commend the ground floor bathroom that’s senior-citizen friendly.
AMGER’S AMENITIES
With pastel tones and tumbled stone flooring, the interiors of the villa are cosy and feature custom-made furniture, curated artefacts and statement light pieces that have been designed by the owners themselves adding a larger-than-life element to the experience.
The villa has a living area space, a dining area, a powder room and four bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. All rooms have balconies or sit-out areas except for one room on the ground floor.
The space also comes with a fully-equipped kitchen, with the luxury of a chef-on-call who ensures guests can enjoy traditional Goan meals from the comfort of the villa. A team of three housekeepers and a concierge service further assists guests.
Coming to the outdoors, there’s a sprawling lawn space for picnics and casual lounging. Guests can enjoy outdoor meals in the gazebo and some drinks by the bar. The villa also has a 44 ft x 20 ft private pool and a machan facing the paddy fields, that’s perfect to birdwatch or to enjoy some alone time.
HOME AWAY FROM HOME
Apart from their amenities, that even feature a TV lounge, high speed Wi-Fi, 100% power backup and a parking space for up to five cars, Amger ensures guests have everything they are looking for.
For instance, breakfast and dining options are available, along with curated chef experiences like sushi, BBQ, grazing tables, which can be arranged at 24 hours notice.
Additionally, guests can enjoy massages organised within 24 to 48 hours notice, through spas affiliated with the villa.
The villa is also perfect for hosting corporate events, bachelor parties and gatherings. It can accommodate up to 20 people for events, though it comfortably sleeps 8 to 10 guests.
What’s more? Their ideal location in Parra allows guests to conveniently access the popular joints in North Goa – from restaurants, cafes and even beaches. Be it the happening neighbourhood of Assagao or the town of Mapusa, these are just a few minutes away.
So, whether you are looking for a stay for a family getaway or for a friends' outing, head to Amger that’s offering the best of amenities, personalised services and a relaxing ambience all perfect to create lasting memories for your next Goa trip.
