If your New Year’s resolutions include fitness, wellness or eating clean, Goa has two standout destinations to help you achieve your goals – Anabolic Cafe and Urth Cafe.

Both cafes emphasise high-protein, nutrient-dense meals and beverages that nourish your body and mind without compromising on taste.

Whether you’re looking to build muscle, shed fat, or simply eat better, these cafes offer something for everyone. So, let’s dive into what makes each of them unique.

ANABOLIC CAFÉ: FUEL YOUR FITNESS JOURNEY

Nestled in the heart of Panjim, this cafe is known for its guilt-free, protein-packed dishes. Popular picks include protein waffles, protein cheesecake and protein shakes — ideal for a wholesome brunch or post-workout refuel.

Nutritionist and fitness consultant at the cafe, Sahil Chopdekar, shares some insights into how the cafe operates.

CUSTOMISED MEALS

While calorie and protein counts are clearly mentioned on the menu, the cafe doesn't stop at that.

“Our team is happy to guide you toward options that align with your fitness goals — whether muscle gain or fat loss," shares Sahil.

QUALITY INGREDIENTS

“We use only the healthiest ingredients, like locally-sourced veggies, multigrain bread and whole wheat pasta,” he explains.

“As a nutritionist, I’ve researched the supplement industry and know that 70% of the market options are ineffective or overhyped. That’s why we stick to scientifically proven supplements, like whey protein and creatine, as add-ons,” he adds.

ON THE MENU

Explaining further, Sahil says, “The most popular dishes are protein waffles (prepared by adding whey protein to the whole wheat flour batter), protein shakes and protein cheesecake that have customers coming back.”

The cafe has options for vegetarian and vegan as well, and includes paneer, soya chunks, whey protein incorporated in various dishes like sandwiches, burgers, acai bowls and smoothies.

COSY SEATING: Anabolic has interesting interiors and seating arrangement.

Suggestions include:

• Pre-workout: Try the bestselling Protein Boost Mocha with espresso, milk and whey protein.

• Post-workout: Choose from options like juicy steaks and protein pancakes.

WHY STOP BY ANABOLIC CAFE

URTH CAFÉ: NOURISH YOUR BODY AND SOUL

Located in Vagator, Urth Café combines ‘earth’ and ‘arth’ (meaning ‘purpose’ in Hindi) to create its unique name.

The cafe offers a distinctive range of Urth Bowls, packed with protein, healthy carbs, good fats and fibre for a well-rounded meal. These bowls are ideal for post-workout recovery to fulfilling options for brunch, lunch or dinner.

We chatted with Anvika Kanwar, the founder of Urth, who shared interestings insights about the cafe's menu and philosophy.

CUSTOMISED MEALS

At Urth Café, there’s something for every fitness goal. For muscle gain, try the Burrito Bowl, Millet-O-Magic Noodles, or BLT Sourdough Sandwich. For fat loss, you can try the Quinoa Buddha Bowl, Zucchini Noodles, or Lean Green Smoothie.

Anvika explains that they provide guidance to customers that extends beyond the cafe menu.

“While the cafe offers dishes tailored to specific fitness goals, we always guide our guests on which options best suit their needs, even if it’s not listed on the menu. Plus, we have a lot of gluten-free and vegan options on the menu,” she shares.

What sets Urth apart is their commitment to using cold-pressed oils for cooking, pink salt and rock salt, and no refined sugar. Instead, they sweeten their dishes and desserts with khandasari sugar, jaggery, coconut sugar, and dates.

The cafe is committed to clean eating, sourcing its ingredients locally, with coffee beans and cocoa from Karnataka and Kerala. This ensures top-quality products while supporting home-grown brands.

In plant-based options, Urth Café offers vegan shakes, smoothie bowls, seed cycling balls, and even vegan gelatos.

As Anvika explains that there’s no strict rule for pre- or post-workout meals — it’s all about portion size and timing. For pre-workout, she recommends Almond Butter Chia Jelly Toast with an Americano or a Choco Latte Chia Bowl.

After your workout, indulge in Cumin carrots and eggs with a protein shake, or any Urth Bowl with added collagen or protein.

“I’m very holistic when it comes to food. I’m passionate about clean eating and ensure that everything I eat nourishes and heals me. I personally curate most of the recipes on the menu for everyone to enjoy,” she concludes.
