Goa saw five rape cases every month on average in 2020, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data.
The NCRB data also revealed that 66 per cent of rape survivors in the state are minors. In 2020, 60 cases of rape were registered in Goa, out of which 42 were against minors. The rape rate in the coastal state (7.8%) is also higher than the national average (4.3%).
There has been no case of acid attack or dowry in Goa in the last one year. However, 67 cases of molestation have been reported. Cases of physical abuse against women increased by 3.4 per cent and sexual abuse by 2.5 per cent.
Although Goa is considered a safe state for women, the incidents of sexual harassment in the workplace has also increased by 0.4 per cent.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, there will be 398 thefts and 148 vehicle thefts in Goa in 2020. Last year, 174 cases were registered under the Narcotics Prevention Act.
