VALPOI: Local villagers and farmers from Sattari has alleged that the negligence of forest department had led to the death of four tigers at Golavli village in Mhadei wildlife sanctuary. Addressing a press conference at Velus, one of its members Nandakumar Kopardekar said, "Negligence of forest department has led to the death of four tigers in Sattari taluka. Earlier, the forest department was not even bothered about the wild animals, but the forest officials realised it now only after the death of tigers," he said. Kopardekar further said, "the earning members of the Dhangar families have been arrested by the forest department for their direct or indirect involvement in killing of tigers and their families have been left without any income as the head of the families were the only bread earner and the only source of income was their cows."

The cost of one cow is almost Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000. Our farmers complain everytime to the Valpoi forest department officials but they are not taking any strict action and are not also providing us any compensation for the death of our cattle," alleged Kopardekar. Besides Kopardekar, Vithoba Gaonkar, Arjun Gurav, Devidas Gaonkar, Vithu Pavne, Babu Humane, Sakru Zore, Vitho Pavne and Krishna Nene were present for the press conference.
