PANAJI: Power Minister Nilesh Cabral on Wednesday claimed that the revised power tariff was not a burden on common man and charged that the opposition parties were opposing the tariff for namesake. Cabral said that the revised slab was good for all consumers and opined that if the consumers was using more power then he will have to pay more for it. He said that if the consumer uses more than 400 units then he will not bill as per lower tariff slab. He further said that the old telescopic approach of billing had been changed to telescopic as the lowest tariff slab was meant only for poor. “Why we should give the advantage of low tariff to other? It was a wrong system which has been proposed to be rectified. We haven’t increased tariff at all”, Cabral said ridiculing the opposition for making representation to the JERC. "It was only for the show by opposition”, Cabral said and added that they should have come to him with their suggestions.
