Six eco sensitive zones notified

Bhagwan Mahaveer wildlife sanctuary and national park, Mhadei wildlife sanctuary, Netravali wildlife sanctuary, Cotigao wildlife sanctuary, Bondla wildlife sanctuary and Dr Salim Ali bird sanctuary are six eco-sensitive zones.

Panaji: The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, government of India notified Bhagwan Mahaveer wildlife sanctuary and national park, Mhadei wildlife sanctuary, Netravali wildlife sanctuary, Cotigao wildlife sanctuary, Bondla wildlife sanctuary and Dr Salim Ali bird sanctuary are six eco-sensitive zones around wildlife protected areas in Goa.
The activities that are prohibited, regulated and permeated in eco-sensitive zones are defined in the notification. A committee to monitor the compliance of the notification have been constituted.
The State Level Eco-Sensitive Zone Monitoring Committee Goa in its meeting decided that as the land details are already available with the Town and Country Planning Department, the chief town planner, will get the draft Zonal Master Plan for Eco-Sensitive Zones prepared.
The State government has extended the term of the committee to prepare the Zonal Master Plan falling in the respective districts within a period of three months.
The members of committee for the North Goa District included chief town planner (Admn), chairman, deputy conservator of forest (WL and ET) (North), member, additional collector (North), director of mines, director of tourism, director of environment and Milind Y Gadgil (SESZMC member). South Goa District included chief town planner (admn), chairman, deputy conservator of forest (WL and ET) (South), member, additional collector (South), director of mines, director of tourism, director of environment and Sandeep V K Azrekar (SESZMC member).
