Goa is no longer just about beaches and watersports—it’s emerging as a vibrant hub for the adrenaline-charged sport of skateboarding. While the state has always been a top tourist destination for its relaxed vibe, it’s quickly becoming a must-visit spot for skateboarders.

At the forefront of this thrilling movement is the SkateLifeGoa community, which has evolved from a small group of passionate skaters into a dynamic global network of enthusiasts.

FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

SkateLifeGoa was born around a decade ago when Anveer, Sam and Vaibhav started skateboarding in Panjim, Goa's capital city. “What started as just three of us is now 40-50 skaters,” says Anveer.

The group was determined to foster the grow of the sport and share their passion with others. Over the years, this tight-knit community has expanded its reach and now organises events that draw skaters from around the world. “Our annual contest in April has close to 100 skateboarders taking part,” adds Anveer.

ENGAGING EVENTS & WORKSHOPS

SkateLifeGoa is not just about skating—it's about community and inclusivity. Throughout the year, the community members organise a variety of events to engage new skaters and bring enhusiasts together. These include free workshops, themed events like the Halloween skate day and Christmas night skate, and fun activities such as 'Paint the Skatepark' and 'Bring a friend to Skate Day'.

FLAGSHIP EVENT

The community's flagship event, SLG OPEN, is a must-see for anyone interested in skateboarding. This summer, events feature exciting competitions, music, meet-and-greet sessions, and even non-skate activities like art exhibitions.

For beginners, the community offers incredible opportunities to learn at the Miramar Skatepark and Cirrus Skatepark in Anjuna. These skateparks are open to everyone, with skateboards available for those who wish to try the sport. Additionally, pro-skater Velister, aka VRod, offers expert coaching for newcomers at the Youth Hostel Skatepark in Miramar.

LOCAL TALENT & INTERNATIONAL CONNECTS

SkateLifeGoa is committed to nurturing local talent. They hold an annual competition that highlights the best of Goa’s skateboarding scene, while also welcoming skateboarders from across India and the globe. “Skating with all these different skaters gives a lot of exposure to learning and seeing new tricks and styles,” says Anveer.

The community is also fortunate to have international supporters like DETYS from America, who supply gear and equipment to those in need. These contributions help ensure that local skaters have access to high-quality materials, which can sometimes be difficult to come by.

SKATEBOARDING: A PART OF GOA’S ADVENTURE TOURISM

Skateboarding may still be under-recognised in Goa’s adventure tourism circuit, but its potential is immense. “Goa’s vibrant energy makes it ideal for skateboarding to thrive with proper support," says Anveer.

The community envisions skateboarding as a key part of Goa’s adventure sports scene, calling for more sponsorships, events, and infrastructure to further promote the sport.
