If the young can dance, the seniors too can. This is the motto at Panjim-based Encore Academy of Performing Arts every summer, where the spotlight isn’t just for the young. Encore endeavours to put the spotlight on senior citizens, who really want to dance.
Starting April 25, 2025, Encore Academy is hosting free dance sessions for seniors every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (from 10 am to 11 am) at the Don Bosco Oratory Hall in Panjim. These sessions will culminate in a grand performance at Spotlight 2025, Encore’s signature event, set to take place on May 13.
“Dance is a celebration of life, and no one should ever feel like age is a barrier to that pursuit,” says Cecille Rodrigues, co-founder of Encore Academy. “We want to show that dance has no age limit—it’s about expression, community, and staying active in mind, body, and spirit.”
The programme includes seven lively and enriching dance sessions led by expert instructors, tailored to suit the pace and comfort of older adults. But the goal goes far beyond learning a routine — it’s about building confidence, rediscovering joy, and creating meaningful connections.

“It’s not just about movement,” Cecille adds. “Many of our seniors have spent years in the audience. Now, they finally get to be on stage, living out a dream they never thought possible.”
That dream came vividly to life last year when an 84-year-old former student of Cecille's wowed the crowd. “Moments like these show us what this programme is working,” says Cecille.
The initiative has grown out of Encore’s long-standing commitment to inclusive arts education. Known for its dynamic performing arts programmes across Goa, the academy runs dance education in over 30 schools and has become a beacon of creativity for all age groups. But this latest offering speaks directly to the often-overlooked senior population.

“This initiative is close to our hearts,” says Anup Arolkar, General Manager of Encore Academy. “We’ve always believed that the stage belongs to everyone. With this programme, we’re opening our arms to the elders of our society—giving them not just a class, but a celebration of their spirit. We can’t wait to see them shine at Spotlight 2025!”

Beyond the performance, the benefits of dance for seniors are well-documented. Improved balance, coordination, memory, and mood are just some of the physical perks.
But perhaps more important are the emotional rewards — reduced loneliness, a stronger sense of purpose, and a boost in overall well-being.
Registrations for the sessions are now open and free for all senior citizens in Goa. Interested participants can sign up by calling 9049044433 or visiting www.encorecircle.com.
As Encore Academy brings seniors into the spotlight once again, it’s clear this is more than a programme — it’s a movement. A movement where the music never stops, and the dancers never age — they just keep dancing.
