Edricia Farm, Siolim, North Goa, is hosting a workshop on the traditional Goan art of making brooms using coconut palm leaves. The workshop will be held on September 6, 2023 (and on every Wednesday). Participants will be able to take the finished product (broom) home.

Luisa from Marna, Siolim, will be the resource person for the workshop, which is open to people of all age groups. The workshop fee includes materials required and a refreshment.

The traditional Goan broom is made from the stalks of coconut leaves, which are trimmed to the desired length. Each broomstick (known called vhir) is obtained from the thick middle vein of the leaf.

This ethnic broom is made using over a hundred broomsticks (sometimes polished), tightly woven, using a rope, which is also made of coconut husk fibre.
