The annual Konnsanchem Fest, or Novidade, will be celebrated at St Michael’s Church, Taleigao, on August 21, 2023.
The schedule of masses on the feast day are as follows:
6 am: Organised by SSVP
7 am: Organised by Catechists
8 am: Organised by Parish Youth
9.15 am: Cutting of the first sheaves
10 am: Feast mass
Evening: No masses
Other events on the feast day:
4 pm: Football match
7 pm: Singing competition (juniors & seniors)
SSVP will be in charge of the canteen.
HISTORY & TRADITION
Taleigao has the distinction of being the first village in Tiswadi to celebrate the Konsachem Fest, a special privilege given to the village by the Portuguese General, Afonso de Albuquerque, over 500 years ago.
The celebrations of the harvest festival of Taleigao are spread over four days, and end on August 24, when the gaunkars go to Se Cathedral (Old Goa), the Archbishop’s House (Altinho, Panjim) and Raj Bhavan (Dona Paula) in keeping with tradition.
