Xavier Centre of Historical Research, Porvorim, is hosting the launch of the book, The Quest for Goa: History and Heritage of Goa from Ancient Times to 2019, on May 30, 2023. The book has been written by Dr Sharmila Pais and professor Prajal Sakhardande.

Vivek Menezes will deliver the keynote address at the launch, while Dr Fatima da Silva Gracias will be the chief guest.

ABOUT THE BOOK

The Quest for Goa: History and Heritage of Goa from Ancient Times to 2019 provides a concise account of Goan history, covering various periods, including prehistoric, medieval, colonial and post-colonial eras.

The book has 34 chapters, and also highlights archaeological finds, early human civilization in Goa, dynastic control, pre-colonial times, colonial expansion, challenges faced during Portuguese rule, post-Liberation society, statehood etc.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Dr Sharmila Pais e Martins is an Associate Professor at the Department of History, St Xavier’s College, Mapusa, and has research articles, seminars and books to her credit.

Prof Prajal Sakhardande is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of History at Dhempe College of Arts & Science, Miramar, Panjim. He is several books to his credit and is also a newspaper columnist, activist and documentary producer.
