Those living in Goa will agree that working here is not as enjoyable as being on vacation. Work can get extremely hectic and exhausting, but what if you take time off for yourself and take a walk on the beach? It’s not just the exercise, but you’ll learn much, connect with people and make new friends.
And, if being on a beach fascinates you, then join a group of people at Betalbatim beach on April 5 to learn about aquamarine life and make memories at the Seaside Summer Fest.
At the second edition of ‘Beyond the Blue’, attend the Unforgettable Beach Walk Experience where you will discover nature’s hidden marvels like sand stars, ocean birds, ghost crabs and much more, reveals Aishwarya Rivonker, curator of the event who believes that fitness can also be achieved through a fun way of learning and enjoyment.
The beach walk will have biologist and marine educator, Nester Fernandes, as the key resource person. He will explore and explain the coastal ecosystem as he walks with the group.
The beach walk will have biologist and marine educator, Nester Fernandes, as the key resource person.
"We have Nester, who has a strong connection to the ocean' He has wide knowledge of the shoreline, biodiversity, intertidal species and the delicate balance of marine habitat," says Aishwarya.
With a deep love for marine life, Nester has a knack for making ocean science accessible and engaging for all. She adds, “Having a sense of community that focuses on living in the present over living on the internet, we believe human connection grows through such community-based interactions. An added bonus is we aim to be aware of our environment and develop a connection with it.”
A very special feature of the walk, says Aishwarya, is where participants will be put in two teams for an Ocean Clean-up Sprint, where there will be a race against time. Here, participants will have to clean up the beach as best as they can.
She informs, “We are incorporating themes like health and fitness in the Ocean Clean-up Sprint and creative storytelling for the Ocean Walk Photo Contest.”

In the Ocean Walk Photo Contest, participants will have to click and submit at least three photographs. These photos should be narrated through the images. The theme of the photo walk will be shared on the spot.
“The two events are conducted for the sole purpose of community engagement, so that people have small occasions to feel like they are contributing to change,” says Aishwarya.
The participants can win some very interesting gifts like T-shirts and other cash prizes up to Rs 4,000. The beach walk is open to participants of all age groups.
The only criteria is participants need to be fit to walk long distances. So, for those of you who are willing, it's time to make a difference by taking one step at a time, contributing to a healthier, more connected community. Let each step bring you closer to positive change, together.
