If you love Western pop, desi melodies and a cappella, then you will love Penn Masala, the world’s first South Asian a cappella group.
The group is on a six-city Homecoming Tour, and will perform in Goa on May 27, 2023 at Artistry Goa, in Vagator, bringing their Bollywood mashups, original tracks and signature beatboxing to the show.
ABOUT PENN MASALA
Penn Masala, the world’s first English-Hindi fusion a cappella group, was founded in 1996 by the South Asian students of the University of Pennsylvania, USA, and their musical style is a fusion of a capella along with jazz, rock and hip hop.
In addition to creating their signature renditions of Bollywood mashups with regional language tracks, they also perform Carnatic and Hindustani ragas in their own unique style.
The group has performed around the globe, from the US to India, as well as notable occasions such as President Obama’s Diwali celebration and the International Indian Film Academy Awards.
The US-based group has 12 studio albums and were featured in the comedy film American Desi and the Hollywood feature film and soundtrack for Pitch Perfect 2, which received an American Music Award for Best Soundtrack in 2015.
Members of the group are Saaketh Narayan, Albert Gu, Vishvesh Dhar, Sachit Gali, Riju Datta, Samarth Nayak, Venugopal Chillal, Prateek Adurty, Ajay Kilambi, Rafhunandan Raman, Gaurish Gaur and Aryaman Meswani.
