If you’re looking for fitness and flexibility, the first thing that comes to mind is a gym session or yoga class. But, what if you’ve been there, done that? Here’s a session you could try, that can boost fitness and flexibility, and then some.

Edricia Farm, Siolim, is organising aerial yoga classes for kids (10 years & above) and adults twice a week, with basic and advanced level sessions. These sessions will be conducted by professional instructor, Natalia Em, who has trained in Russia, a country which is famous for its graceful gymnasts and ballet dancers.

Participants can choose to attend a single session or more as per their preferences, while discounts are also available under certain conditions.

Prior experience of yoga is not necessary, although, flexibility would prove to be an advantage to the participants. Senior citizens and clients with vertigo or severe joint pain are not permitted.

ABOUT AERIAL YOGA

Aerial yoga is a form of exercise which helps to build strength, stamina and flexibility. While yoga is generally practised on a mat, this aerial form is done in the air, and is credited to the famous yoga guru, BKS Iygengar, who used to hang his students upside down so as to demonstrate the many benefits that ‘inversion therapy’ can bring.

While ropes were used in those early days, they have now been replaced by luxurious drapes and fabrics.

Aerial yoga became popular in the US in the early 90s, thanks to Christopher Harrison, a choreographer who founded AntiGravity Inc. fitness company, which combined suspension, dance, acrobatics, Pilates and yoga.

Over the years, aerial yoga underwent a few more changes, and gained in popularity.

As far as fitness goes, aerial yoga gives a full body workout, tones the muscles, boosts circulation, and helps maintain good body posture among other things.
