Former Siolim MLA and former Water resource minister Vinod Paliencar kicked off his campaign as an independent candidate in Siolim on Monday, January 24.
Speaking to Gomantak Times, Paliencar said, “As I had the opportunity to represent Siolim in the last assembly, as an MLA as well as a Minister, I have done a lot of development work in Siolim. I have fought to the end, regardless of my life, on the much-discussed Mhadei's questions.”
He further said that he had paid attention to the water-power issue and has succeeded in bringing Tilari's ambitious project. “I had won the last assembly election by defeating the established politicians by around two thousand votes,” he said
was rejected by his own party this year.
Paliencar, who contested on Goa Forward ticket in the last elections, said. “If he had gone before the people as a candidate of Goa Forward or a candidate of Congress-Forward Alliance, people would have definitely rejected him but as independent many locals are supporting me.”
He expressed confidence that he will succeed in maintaining the same tradition of victory this year as well.
He further said the wife of former minister Michael Lobo, Delilah Lobo, and former MLA Dayanand Mandrekar candidature from the Siolim constituency would not make any difference to him at all.
Paliencar tendered his resignation to the office of the Speaker on Friday, January 21, ahead of the next month's Goa Assembly election 2022.
