Madgaon: The Madgaon Municipality has decided to issue work orders for setting up two more 5 tonnes per day (TPD) waste treatment plants to overcome the waste problem in the city. For the project, Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) has already given the green light to the civic body. This was indicated in a review meeting held by Madgaon MLA Digambar Kamat on Friday regarding the progress of various works in Madgaon. Hussain Shah Muzawar, a senior project engineer of GSUDA, pointed out that the municipality has been asked to go ahead with the two projects.

The meeting was attended by mayor Lyndon Pereira who said that the municipality has already set up a 5 TPD waste treatment plant near the SGPDA market and a satisfactory report is pending for it. Now, it is up to the municipal administration to issue work orders for setting up one 5 TPD plant near the wholesale fish market and another in the parking lot of SGPDA.

The fire at the municipality's Sonsodo waste dump and the subsequent collapse of the Sonsodo project wall had left the municipality in a quandary. As a result, a request was made to the Solid Waste Corporation to take the wet waste from that project to the Salgaon project. The Sonsodo project, on the other hand, was not resolved. "Now since that the obstacles in the way of these two projects have been removed, the work should be completed immediately", said Kamat.
