The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) on Wednesday issued a statement to the District Collector of North Goa Mamu Hage demanding that the use of loudspeakers for Ajaan should be stopped in the whole of Goa as per the directions of the High Court.
"Despite court orders and subsequent directives (from the authorities), loudspeakers are being used for azan from mosques in Goa. Loudspeakers make loud prayers for everyone. Using the same principles, if all other religions start installing loudspeakers in their places of worship, it will be a big problem for all citizens, "the statement said.
Noting that the use of loudspeakers for Ajaan is not mandatory or an essential part of Islam, the members of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti said, “As stated by the Supreme Court, sleep is a fundamental right of every Indian citizen. Loudspeakers should not be used for Ajaan in the morning time before 6 in the morning.
According to HJS Goa convenor Manoj Solanki, Goa bench of the high court had already called for the banning of illegal use of loudspeakers for 'Azan' after one Varun Priolkar had submitted a petition on March 2021.
