The Canacona Taluka library that used to provide a trove of books to college students and children has been shut for two months.

The Canacona Municipal Corporation building, where the library used to operate, will be demolished and replaced by a ground-plus-two-storeyed building. The municipal administration had asked the Arts and Culture department to vacate the library space two months ago.

The Art and Culture Department is looking for a suitable site for the taluka library. However, the readers are not able use the services of the public library.

The department has inspected the site of Government Higher Secondary School Complex at Shelar. Apart from that, an inspection has been carried out to relocate the library in the auditorium of Komarpant Samaj at Devabag.

However, both the places are not suitable for the library.

The library consists of about 26,000 books in different languages, 80 cupboards, tables and other materials.

The Ravindra Bhavan project in Cancona will take at least two years to complete.
