Margao police on Wednesday traced the 40 cartridges of an India Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel that had gone missing when personnel were travelling from Goa to poll-bound Uttar Pradesh for election duty.

According to Margao Police, the bag containing the cartridges was found lying in a roadside gutter near the ring road in between the fire station to Davorlim circle in the morning.

"All the cartridges have been recovered and are safe," said Madgaon police inspector Sachin Narvekar.

Around 900 IRB staff from Goa boarded a train from Margao Railway Station on Tuesday which would take them to Uttar Pradesh.

According to a senior police officer, this large group of Goa police will be stationed there on election duty.

“Ten companies of Goa Police are going to UP for the elections. The team is headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Rakesh Kumar. There are 10 Police Inspectors (PIs) and many Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs) and Assistant Police Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) who are travelling with this group,” he said.

“They are fully equipped to deal with any situation that may arise and are well-armed. They also have all the necessary help from everyone,” he added while supervising the arrangements for their train departure.
