In order to streamline traffic, and ensure that drivers follow traffic rules in Mormugao taluka, Vasco Traffic police registered 43,001 offences for violation of traffic rules and collected Rs 54,07,600 during the year 2021.

In 2021, the traffic cell recovered Rs 1,52,000 from 452 speeding drivers and Rs. 4,30,950 from 629 reckless drivers.

45 people were prosecuted for driving under the influence of alcohol and were fined by a court while Rs. 5,13,450 was recovered from 5053 people who inconveniently parked their vehicles.

Traffic cell fined 16,524 people for driving without a helmet and recovered Rs 16,60,100 while 193 people were fined for using a phone while driving.

A fine of Rs. 2,18,200 was recovered from 2069 drivers without legal number plates and Rs. 3,86,050 from 3856 drivers for not wearing seat belts while driving a four-wheeler.

34 minors were arrested while driving and Rs 19,650 was recovered from them. A fine of Rs. 1,400 was recovered and action was taken against 404 taxi drivers who did not install taxi meters.

Rs. 1,88,000 was recovered from 376 drivers who were driving without a driving license while Rs 34,400 was recovered from 65 people for driving without a pollution license.

"Obeying traffic rules will help reduce the number of accidents. Also, if the parents focus on the children and inform them about rules and road safety, they then chances of mistakes are less, traffic will be under control and accidents will be avoided," said Traffic inspector Sudesh Narvekar.
