The Department of Physics, Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Quepem-Goa is organising a 2-day national seminar on “Trends in the Techniques of Preparation and Characterization of Smart Material” at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on March 3 and 4, 2023. The seminar is supported by the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa.

Nanotechnology is based on smart materials and has been a subject of immense interest over the past few years. Today this enables us to see the bigger picture of nanoscience and technology.

Nanotechnology is on the way to becoming a trillion-dollar market; it influences almost every facet of everyday life. New properties enable us to introduce nanotechnology in new applications.

The objective of this programme is to provide a forum to bring together renowned scientists and major research groups working in the field of nanomaterials and their application to exchange their ideas, knowledge and experience.

Some of the principal speakers are: Prof B N Thorat, Director of the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Matunga-Mumbai; Prof C D Lokhande, who has published over a thousand research papers from Shivaji University, Kolhapur; Prof Gaurav Lohar, Indian Science Congress Association Young Scientist Awardee, InSc, UGC Meritorious Fellow, and Early Career Research Award (DST-SERB, Government of India).

Dr E S Kannan, BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus, who has published over 30 research papers and has four sponsored projects in the area of nanotechnology; Jhuma Sannigrahi, a Ramanujam Fellow as well as a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow (2017) IIT, Goa, with 31 publications under her belt; Prof Umesh Chowgule, an active researcher from Shivaji University, Kolhapur; Dr Reshma Raut-Dessai, Goa University and Prof Vikas Pisurlekar, the principal of PES College, Ponda, will also be speaking at the seminar.

The seminar will be convened by Prof Shirish Kamat, Head of the Department of Physics, Govt College, Quepem. This seminar will be held under the guidance of Prof Joydeep Bhattacharjee, the principal of Govt College, Quepem.

The seminar will provide an excellent platform for participants to discuss new trends and challenges in the field of nanotechnology.

This two-day programme will be split into eight sessions where renowned speakers will share their insights with faculty and students.

The seminar will be of great help to research scholars, postgraduates and undergraduate students of physics, chemistry and material science.
