It’s no surprise that when you think of summer in Goa your mind instantly takes you to the beaches, where you can taste the salt in the air and hear the whoosh as the waves rush to embrace the shore. Already longing to head to the beach? So are we!
While the first recommendation is, of course, to visit a beach, up north, you will find the more popular ones, those buzzing with activity, while down south, you’ll discover quieter shores. The rule is to pick someplace that suits you.
If you are a large group, then beyond taking a dip, you can try playing a game of dog and the bone or volleyball or do the usual – spread a sheet and picnic on the sands.
But, apart from beaches, summers in Goa have a lot to offer, and if you are looking forward to making it an exciting time, read on to experience the best of Goa.
VISIT A SPICE FARM
The beach may not be everyone’s idea of fun, but maybe, surrounding yourself with nature, unwinding with that hint of the fragrance of spices in the air, is your kind of vibe.
If yes, then Goa has quite a few spice farms scattered across its length and breadth that provide quite a getaway for those seeking an escape.
Farms like Parshu-Van Farm and Nandanvan Spice Farm usually have a nominal entry fee. Apart from a peek into Goa’s rich flora and seasonal produce, some farms offer a short tour of their estate, sharing intriguing information about the plants, including their medicinal properties.
Some have a pool were you can take a refreshing plunge while others provide a traditional Goan meal for that complete picnic experience.
ENJOY THE SLIDE FUN
If you’re of the adventurous kind, the next best option is to glide down a waterslide. And great news, apart from Splashdown Waterpark, Froggy Land in Nuvem and Nagesh Water World, Goa recently added another exciting destination – Farm 33 Waterpark.
These waterparks are fantastic spots not just for kids, but also for adults. With towering waterslides featuring twists and turns, along with refreshing pools to beat the summer heat, there’s no shortage of excitement.
While the thrills are plenty, make sure you adhere to the rules and other safety measures.
BOOK A FENI EXPERIENCE
Popular during Goa’s summers are not just the cashew apples, but also feni, an alcoholic drink made from these yellow juicy delights. While you can enjoy this beverage at restaurants or pick a bottle from wine stores, there are other unique experiences to explore.
At the Goa Heritage Distillery, chance the opportunity to witness the entire journey of cashew feni – from farm to bottle – from harvesting to de-seeding to stomping the fruits and distillation, this cashew trail gives you the full experience and is organised from March to May.
If you merely want to appreciate feni in the midst of some great company, there’s also the Floating Feni Experience, hosted by Fazenda Cazulo.
