Go back in time with a concert of mando and fado music on July 15, 2023 at Madragoa, in Panjim. The event will feature Sonia Shirsat (fadista) and Sherwyn Correia (fadista) accompanied by Orlando de Noronha (Portuguese guitar), Emmanuel de Noronha (violin) and Carlos Meneses (guitar).
Dainty Indo-Portuguese delicacies will also be served at the event.
The fado is a music genre of Portugal, comprising a vocalist accompanied by one or two musicians, playing traditional Portuguese instruments.
On the other hand, the mandó is a centuries old musical genre of Goa, which is characterised by a group performance involving singing and dancing, and accompanied by violin and the Goan ghumot (a local terracotta hand drum).
Madragoa is Goa's first house of fado and mandó, where you can get to hear both these music styles along with creative variations in the singing and music styles.
