CULTURAL FEAST

The festival that took place over two days was a fascinating amalgamation of various cultural features of Goa. Both days of Festa do Povo saw large crowds clamouring to participate in the festivities that so epitomised Goan culture.

Day one featured traditional Shigmo dances, storytelling on mythical rakhondars (protectors) and the seven sisters, and craft activities for children by Bookworm, a local community bookstore.

There were musical and dance representations of Goa's culture with performances that included the Kaustubha Ballet, the dekhni dance and music by Sound of Music. A highlight of the event was Goan fado singer Sonia Shirsat and the Stuti Choir delivering a memorable musical collaboration.

The performances were held simultaneously over two stages, adding a spirit of dynamism while attendees swayed to the beat of the superb musical presentations.

COMMUNITY-DRIVEN

The people of Panjim, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) and Imagine Panaji came together to organise the event. The area along the mangrove-lined pedestrian spine at Patto Plaza near the Spaces building was claimed to host the festival.

Residents from various city wards, especially those from heritage homes and blocks, actively participated in planning the festival.

International chefs and renowned restaurants also chipped in, contributing to the diverse gastronomic spread that celebrated Goa’s culinary heritage. Local beverages were given the spotlight thanks to a dedicated feni bar and beverage counter. This move most definitely enhanced the festive mood.
