What could be more poetic than an Open Mic event at a bookshop in Margao, that appears to be straight out of a storybook?
After weaving their magical web of words through open mics, workshops and curated poetry festivals, in various cities, 'Poets of Community' comes to Goa, with an open mic, titled ‘Poetry and Prose,’ that will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Dogears bookshop in Margao.
The concept for Poets of Community was initiated by Ravi Vishwakarma along with Abhishek Sharma in 2017, in Delhi, with a simple, yet powerful idea of gathering city-based poets and giving their voices a dedicated platform to perform.
Fast forward eight years to 2025, and Poets of Community has managed to successfully create safe, non-judgmental spaces throughout the country, where anyone, and everyone, can come together and pour out their hearts through words. Or just come, listen and connect with the community
The concept for Poets of Community was initiated by Ravi Vishwakarma along with Abhishek Sharma in 2017, in Delhi.
Ravi, Abhishek and Ripal Abhay Dixit, the brains behind this endeavour, locked in on Goa to host their next poetry community since the State, with its vibrant art and literary culture, felt like a natural choice.
They couldn’t imagine fostering Indian literature and poetry without including a place that has long been the heart of creative expression. And so, Poets of Goa emerged.
They have big dreams for Poets of Goa. Instilled with the firm belief that every poet, author and storyteller — whether emerging or established — deserves a platform to be heard, they aim to build a strong, inclusive space that promotes local literature.
From poetry gatherings and workshops to curated poetry festivals, they hope to see Poets of Goa grow into a vibrant literary movement where poets and poetry lovers come together and connect through their shared love for words.
The trio hopes to see Poets of Goa grow to be a place shaped by the people of Goa who believe in the power of poetry, community and connections.
What sets Poets and Prose apart is that it isn’t merely an open mic event, but also a poetry gathering; it isn’t just about performance, but about building a community.
The trio has consciously planned to highlight local poets and bring their work into the spotlight which, according to them, is one of the most meaningful and beautiful ways to grow.
Poets and Prose, along with being an Open Mic event, is also a poetry gathering, where Goan poets can come together.
Particular about who curates each city’s chapter, Poets of Community connected with Gargi Guha, an ex-communications professional with a deep love for literature, and a poet herself to host the upcoming session.
The trio, along with her, have embarked on this mission of getting the pen wielders of Goa together, with a hope to build something that is meaningful and lasting.
Expect a warm, welcoming atmosphere at Poems and Proses, one filled with poetry, expression and connection.

“Expect a warm, welcoming atmosphere at Poems and Proses, one filled with poetry, expression and connection. You will meet fellow poets, discover fresh voices, experiment with new styles, and most importantly, feel a sense of belonging,” says Ripal.
With their Delhi chapter forging ahead, they hope to introduce the same vibe to Goa’s art and literature scene.
