Founded in 2007 by Amit Naik Burye, with the support of his wife Tanushree, Mom’s Recipes is the fruit of perseverance and passion.
Burye, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management, embarked on his culinary journey by supplying lunch tiffins to factories while nurturing his vision of opening his own restaurant.
In order to fund this dream, he spent six years in the IT industry, operating a small computer showroom before launching the first outlet of Mom’s Recipes at the Verna Industrial Estate.
In its initial days, Mom’s Recipes was a modest 30-cover eatery serving thalis during lunch hours. Within six months, the restaurant expanded its menu to include a variety of Goan delicacies, quickly gaining popularity among locals and visitors alike.
The success of the first outlet led to the opening of a second branch in Pilar cementing the restaurant’s reputation as a go-to destination for Goan cuisine.
What sets Mom’s Recipes apart is its deep-rooted connection to tradition and family. Some of the recipes used in the restaurant come from Burye’s mother-in-law and his own mother, making every dish a heartfelt tribute to family heritage.
The ambience of the restaurant is carefully curated to reflect Goan culture, with thoughtful details such as a wooden shutter from Burye’s ancestral home and locally inspired artefacts that add a touch of nostalgia.
The bar area, aptly named Garrafao, offers enticing cocktails that celebrate Goan flavours, such as Tuzoch’s Tambdo (a kokum-infused delight), Confusao (a feni-based concoction), and Ginny Bai, a refreshing gin-based mix.
For food enthusiasts, Mom’s Recipes is an unmissable culinary experience. The signature fish thali is a delightful burst of authentic Goan flavours, featuring perfectly cooked chonak (with other fish options available), a rich and flavourful prawn curry made with homemade masala, and the delectable Crab Xec Xec-infused with aromatic Goan spices.
Complementing these are the Ajwain Coconut Sol Kadi and Chana Oosli, offering a balance of refreshing and hearty flavours. A must-try is the traditional Hindu sweet, kangache neureo, made from sweet potato, which rounds off the meal on a perfect note.
For those who enjoy seafood, the Recheado Prawns are a true delicacy. Expertly cooked and topped with caramelised onions, the prawns are coated in a tangy recheado masala that strikes a harmonious balance between sweet, sour and spicy flavours.
Another standout dish is the Chicken Sukha Canapes, featuring shredded chicken, seasoned with whole spices and served atop crispy Goan canapes for the ultimate bite-sized treat.
The Butter Garlic Crabs are another highlight, with tender, flaky crab meat bathed in a rich butter-garlic sauce that enhances, rather than overpowers, the natural sweetness of the crab.
There is plenty to savour from the non-vegetarian options, from the smoky and flavourful Chicken Ghee Roast Kebabs to the much-raved-about biryani and Butter Chicken.
