Longuinhos is a delicious mix of Goan nostalgia and cuisine
If you're on the hunt for the best Goan food in Margao, South Goa, then you simply must visit Longuinhos Restaurant — one of Goa’s most iconic and oldest dining establishments.
Proudly serving locals and tourists alike, Longuinhos is celebrating an incredible 75 years of its culinary legacy this year.
Founded in the late 1940s by Longuinho Almeida Coutinho, a former naval gunner, the restaurant originally went by the name Casa Portuguesa before taking on the name that we all know and love today.
His son, Ivo Almeida Coutinho, now runs the show and ensures that every dish stays true to its Goan roots.
A BELOVED LOCAL HANGOUT IN THE HEART OF MARGAO
Longuinhos holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Margao. “Whenever locals return from abroad and want to reconnect with the flavours of home, this is where they come,” says Ivo.
What sets Longuinhos apart from other restaurants in Goa is its all-day service — open from 8 am to 11 pm, without any siesta breaks. Whether you're craving a hearty Goan breakfast, an afternoon snack, or a late dinner, Longuinhos is ready to serve you.
While Longuinhos is famed for its authentic Goan cuisine, the menu includes a variety of Indian and Chinese dishes that cater to every palate.
EXPLORE A DIVERSE MENU WITH A GOAN SOUL
While Longuinhos is famed for its authentic Goan cuisine, the menu includes a variety of Indian and Chinese dishes that cater to every palate. Still, it’s the traditional Goan fare that keeps guests coming back.
Local favourites include their signature sausage pulao, juicy steaks and a range of Goan snacks like prawn rissois, beef croquettes, patties and savoury cutlets.
Ivo personally steps into the kitchen for every Goan dish, making sure each plate is cooked to perfection and stays true to family recipes passed down through generations.
And, for those with a sweet tooth? There’s a mouthwatering selection of house-made desserts that you simply can’t miss.
OLD-WORLD CHARM MEETS MODERN COMFORT
The interiors of Longuinhos haven’t changed much over the decades — and that’s exactly the point. With furniture that dates back 75 years, the restaurant offers a sense of nostalgia and charm that modern establishments often lack.
“You can sit here for hours and still feel comfortable,” Ivo shares, as he talks about the things that make the restaurant so alluring.
They’ve made minor upgrades over the years, such as modern air-conditioning units and new ceiling fans, replacing their vintage counterparts, while preserving the old Goan ambience.
Interestingly, what is now the AC section of the restaurant once served as a billiards room, where Portuguese patrons would enjoy drinks and fresh seafood.
In addition to the restaurant, the family also produces homemade jams and pickles on-site, and these are available for purchase.
MORE THAN JUST A RESTAURANT
Longuinhos isn’t just about food — it’s a whole experience. In addition to the restaurant, the family also produces homemade jams and pickles on-site, and these are available for purchase.
They also own a farm and a charming resort in Colva, making it the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the leisurely pace of South Goa.
