Sunaparanta Goa Centre for the Arts will present an evening of sublime Western classical music, featuring a live performance by the celebrated Motus Quartet from Austria, in collaboration with renowned concert pianist Dr Marialena Fernandes, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at 6.30 pm.
AROUND THE WORLD
The Motus Quartet – consisting of Tim de Vries (1st violin), Karla Kriz (2nd violin), Erin Pitts (viola) and Domonkos Hartmann (cello) – is one of Austria’s most exciting young chamber music ensembles.
Trained under Johannes Meissl at the prestigious University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, the quartet has gained international acclaim for their musical depth and engaging performances.

In recent years, they have won several distinguished accolades including the first prize at the 10th International Joseph Joachim Competition for Chamber Music, the Artis Quartet Award, and the Viennese Classicism Award.
Their performance journey has taken them across Europe and beyond, gracing prestigious venues such as the Vienna Konzerthaus, Vienna Musikverein, and concert halls in Denmark, Italy, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tunisia, and the United States.
Their concert in Goa will offer a rare opportunity for Indian audiences to experience their artistry up close.
ABOUT THE CONCERT
The evening’s repertoire will include compositions by Joseph Haydn, Dmitri Shostakovich, and AntonIn Dvorak, reflecting the quartet’s mastery across classical and modern styles. These timeless pieces will be brought to life with sensitivity and technical brilliance, enhanced by the musical synergy of Dr Marialena Fernandes on piano.
This special concert also marks the 10th anniversary of the ‘Quest for Passion’ initiative, a collaborative project, envisioned and led by Dr Marialena.
Their performance journey has taken them across Europe and beyond, gracing prestigious venues such as the Vienna Konzerthaus, Vienna Musikverein, and concert halls in Denmark, Italy, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tunisia, and the United States.
A professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna since 1991, Dr Marialena has been a passionate advocate for building cultural bridges between India and Europe through music.
She was recently honoured with the 2025 Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award, India’s highest civilian award for overseas Indians, in recognition of her contributions to education and cultural diplomacy.
ABOUT DR MARIALENA
Born in Mumbai, Dr Marialena moved to Austria as a teenager, where she pursued her passion for music and rose to become a respected figure in the international classical music community.
She has performed extensively as a soloist and with ensembles across the globe, and her research work reflects her deep connection to her roots. Her PhD thesis on The Konkani Song – Roots, Development, Documentation is a landmark study in the preservation and understanding of regional Indian music traditions.
These timeless pieces will be brought to life with sensitivity and technical brilliance, enhanced by the musical synergy of Dr Marialena Fernandes on piano.
Her project, Quest for Passion, was created to promote dialogue and collaboration between Indian and European musicians. Over the last decade, this initiative has brought together young talents through a series of workshops, concerts, and residencies across various cities in India.
It has nurtured cross-cultural understanding and provided valuable opportunities for young musicians from both continents to engage, perform, and learn from one another.
This concert in Goa is part of the continuing efforts of the project to connect audiences with world-class music and inspire the next generation of performers.
