
Tiatr is an inseparable part of Goan culture and in times of changing demography has survived and held on to its own because of the strong patrons of this old stage art that has evolved in many ways.
The Tiatr Academy of Goa has been at the forefront of keeping the tiatr legacy alive in many ways and one of them is the children's titar competition which is in its 12th edition.
Every year, the academy organises this competition to inculcate tiatr culture among children. The purpose of this competition is to involve children up to 16 years of age in the production and staging of tiatrs.
This competition will be held in January/February 2024 and the venue for staging the tiatrs will be announced at a later date.
Applications in the prescribed format, along with typed copies of tiatr script and lyrics of songs, are invited from educational institutions/sports and cultural associations/individual producers by November 30, 2023.
Tiatr Academy Goa will give financial support of Rs 40,000 per troupe to produce the tiatr. A maximum of 15 entries will be allowed to participate in the production and staging of tiatrs.
The themes of the tiatrs should be compulsorily based on the lives of children only. The scripts having no relevance to children’s lives will not be considered. Scripts of tiatr and lyrics of songs performed at TAG’s interschool/intercollegiate tiatr competition will not be permitted.
Those interested in taking part are requested to collect the entry form along with rules and regulations from the office of Tiatr Academy of Goa, AS-1, 2nd Floor, Campal Trade Centre, Campal, Panjim, Goa or download the form from https://tiatracademyofgoa.com.
The winners of the competition will be awarded trophies and all the performers will get certificates. Prizes will be given for acting, best direction, stage setting, light effects, music (live band), background music, make-up, costumes, best singer, lyrics and script.
